ITS Centre for Dental Studies and Research organized a one day workshop on, “Current Trends in Education & IQA”.
This workshop was specially arranged with the purpose to upgrade the teaching and assessment methodology so as to keep pace with the latest trends in the world. Another important feature of this workshop was  that it highlighted the requirement of establishment of IQA cell which is an essential requirement of UGC and NAAC accreditation. Further  it also aids in  a consistent, continuous and catalytical improvement of the performance of the Institution on a day to day basis.
The day started with a grand inauguration ceremony in the college auditorium. Prof. (Dr.) P.K. Julka, Dean AIIMS graced the occasion with his august presence as Chief Guest. Dr. R.P. Chadha, Chairman, ITS – The Education Group was the Guest of Honor. Patron Prof. (Dr.) Hari Parkash, Director General, ITS Dental College, Principal Prof. (Dr.)  Vinod Sachdeva, Organizing Chairman, Vice Principal Prof. (Dr.) Devicharan Shetty, Organizing Secretary graced the occasion with their presence.
This was followed by the inauguration of the ‘Advanced Research Centre’ in the college premises. The Advanced Research Centre is equipped with latest and modern facilities such as Immunological and Metallurgical facilities which aid in performing high quality research in our esteemed institution. This is the only institute in northern India with such advanced research facilities available. Dr Swati Gupta (PhD) has been appointed as senior research coordinator who helps to assist in the research projects of postgraduate students and faculty members.
The workshop included eminent guest speakers who are expertise in their respective fields. Prof. (Dr.) Nalin Mehta, Dept of Physiology, AIIMS, enlightened the audience on the topic of ethics in dental practice and research. Prof. (Dr.) Hari Parkash Director General ITS Dental Colleges discussed about essential components of ‘IQA’ in dental colleges and emphasized on the quality assessment cell in the institution.
Dr. B.V. Adkoli, educationist and consultant at AIIMS focused on recent trends in teaching and assessments. After scrumptious lunch the workshop continued with yet another interesting and important topic by Dr. K. Rajan, Director of Dantah on the topic of disinfection and sterilization facilities for dental health care service providers which is an important topic to prevent any type of cross infection while performing dental procedures. This was followed by a lecture by Dr. Ramesh Agarwal, Additional Prof. of Pediatric Neonatology at AIIMS on the topic, ‘Going about research’, which is an important topic as every researcher must publish his work to share his experience with other international researchers. And such publications should be published in indexed journals and should be careful about plagiarism. Thus he appraised the delegates about the scientific writing of research projects and publications.
More than 350 faculty members and PG students from adjoining dental colleges of NCR region actively participated in the deliberation and had a fruitful panel discussion at the end of the workshop. In the 21st century such workshops are very essential for the faculty development so as to keep pace with the changing trends in the dental education and assessments. It was also emphasized that dental colleges should upgrade with the advancements in the field of technology and should not remain static.
